Currently, fresh water is supplied from underground sumps in the No. 5 Mine. Two (2) underground pumping stations are used to maintain pressure and flow throughout the mine. To maintain a more reliable pumping system, especially in the event of an underground emergency, RAG Empire is planning to change to a system with surface pumps and storage. The water source will be the No. 5 Mine dewatering ponds. Pressure pumps will be placed at the ponds. Water will be pumped into the No. 5 and No. 6 mines via a pipeline that enters the mines through a converted power borehole near the silo. Livestock Ponds RAG EC submitted Technical Revision Number 7 for the Division on September 10, 1987 detailing the plans for installing livestock ponds. This revision has been placed in Exhibit 41 of the permit. WILLIAMS FORK RIVER BANK STABILIZATION During the spring runoff of 1984, the Williams Fork River overtopped its banks, resulting in bank erosion. In order to protect the riverbank and mine facilities, RAG Empire placed riprap on selected sections of the Williams Fork River bank. Details of the bank stabilization plan can be found in the United States Army Permit (33CFR325) located in Exhibit 2, Other Required Permits.
