June 22,2011 C-1982-057/Seneca H-W Mine SLB
flowing out of the drainpipe and the road ditch on the north side was dry.
Repairs to the outfall of Culvert ME-1,required by Step 4 to abate NOV CV 2011-001 were complete. The
operator had regraded the outfall and installed rip rap(8-10")at the outlet and approximately 30' beyond, where
Hubberson Gulch makes a 90 degree turn. The rip rap at the channel bend is about 18-24"in diameter.
An excavator and dozer were working on reclaiming portions of the Mine Entrance Haul Road and Haul Road A
up to the intersection with Haul Road J. The graded areas blend well with the surrounding topography. Topsoil
was being replaced by scrapers and a dozer. Straw wattles had been placed on the reclaimed outslopes along 006
Gulch to prevent transport of sediment into the creek.
Ponds 005 and 006 were discharging clear water. The October 19, 2010 and June 6,2011 inspection reports
included comments on the adequacy of the rip rap in the emergency spillway of Pond 005. Further review of the
approved design indicates that rip rap in the channel should be 1.5"on average; the material in the spillway is
approximately 2-3"in diameter, so no further action will be necessary.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED Ny111,
OTHER(SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 11
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 3 of 8
