Ms. Michelle L. Hatcher Page 4 of 7
June 22, 2011
The excess river credits attributable to the 3.75 shares of Rural Ditch are proposed to be
stored in the Varra Pit No. 112. The excess river credits which accrue to the stream system will
be stored in the Varra Pit No. 112 in May, June, July and August 2011. It is estimated that
108.87 acre -feet of excess credits will be available for storage during this plan period.
According to the reservoir operations model for the 112 Pit, the water placed in the 112 pit will
incur an evaporative loss of 5 %, or 5.4 acre -feet. The 112 Pit has access to a ditch headgate,
which will be used to deliver the excess river credits to the lined reservoir for storage. The
stored water will be released from the pit to cover depletions from the site as shown in attached
Table 4.
below:
The 3.75 shares of the Rural Ditch were historically used to irrigate the four farms listed
Adler Farm β€”The Adler farm was historically irrigated using 5 shares of the Rural Ditch
of which Weld County owns 1 share. The 5 shares were historically used to irrigate 168 acres
of corn and 63 acres of Pasture grass, all of which has been taken out of production. The
historic consumptive use of the 5 shares was determined to be 209.6 acre -feet. The pro -rata
historic consumptive use for 1 share is 41.9 acre -feet.
Gould Farm β€” The Gould farm was historically irrigated using 2 shares of the Rural Ditch
of which Weld County owns 1 share. The 2 shares were historically used to irrigate 55 acres of
corn, all of which has been taken out of production. The historic consumptive use of the 2
shares was determined to be 66.4 acre -feet. The pro-rata historic consumptive use for 1 share
is 33.2 acre -feet.
The Villa Property β€” The Villa Property was historically irrigated using 1.5 shares of the
Rural Ditch owned by Weld County. The 1.5 shares were historically used to irrigate 27 acres of
corn and 27 acres of Pasture grass, all of which has been taken out of production. The historic
consumptive use of the 1.5 shares was determined to be 61.7 acre -feet.
Slovek Property β€” The Slovek Property was historically irrigated using 1 share of the
Rural Ditch of which Weld County owns 0.25 shares. The 1 share was historically used to
irrigate 30 acres of corn and 30 acres of pasture grass, all of which has been taken out of
production. The historic consumptive use of the 1 share was determined to be 50.5 acre -feet.
The pro-rata historic consumptive use for 0.25 shares is 12.6 acre -feet.
Weld County has obtained a lease from SVLH for 21.0 acre -feet and a copy of the lease
is attached to this letter. This lease will be used to replace depletions in April 2011. The amount
leased from the SVLH includes a transit loss of 0.25% per mile for the 12 miles between the pit
location and the discharge point for the SVLH water, equal to 0.6 acre -feet.
Weld County has a perpetual lease with Greeley for the right to use up to 300 acre -feet
per year of reusable effluent from the City of Greeley's Wastewater Treatment Plant ( "VWVTP ").
This perpetual lease is used by the County for several projects. As shown on the attached Table
4, 6.1 acre -feet will be used in March 2012 to replace depletions from the Hokestra Pit. A copy
of the Greeley lease is attached to this letter. The reusable effluent will be released from the
VVVVTP (WDID 0302312) which is located on the south bank of the Cache La Poudre River in
the SW 4 of the SW % of Section 4, Township 5 North, Range 65 West of the 6 P.M., in Weld
County.
