6) In reference to the proposed vegetative islands please specify what initial stabilization
methods will be used. Also, since the islands are designed to intercept drainages within the
proposed permit area are long term stabilization methods proposed to maintain the long
term vegetative island integrity?
7) According to the comments from the Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR)
received May 23, 2011 approximately 16 acre feet of water is available for the Craig Ranch
Pit, not 21 acre feet as indicated in the permit application. Please clarify the status of the
decree, according to the DWR, no water is available for use at the Craig Ranch under the
lease submitted with the application.
This is a preliminary review. Other issues may arise from other agency comments, and as more
information is supplied. Also, DRMS hydrology staff is currently reviewing the application and will
send their review under separate cover in the near future. This application cannot be approved until all
issues brought forth by Division staff are adequately addressed. Please submit a response to the
following issues as soon as possible, but no later than July 10, 2011 so the decision due date set July 21,
2011 can be met. If your response or a written extension request are not received by July 10, 2011 this
application may be denied.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970.241.2042.
Sincerely,
Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
ec: Steve Shuey, DRMS
-2-
