June 7,2011 C-1981-025/North Thompson Creek Mine J R S
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE (cont.) -Treatment Ponds T-1 and T-2 were well vegetated and stable at the time of
the inspection. Treatment Pond T-1 flows into Treatment Pond T-2,which then is the discharge point for the
water. Currently all of the water is discharged to permanent sediment ponds P-9 and the Refuse Pile Pond. The
treatment pond system(consisting of the Long Pond and Treatment Ponds T-1 and T-2)appears to be working as
there is no staining of the rocks and soil at the discharge point from T-2. None of the water was discharging into
the North Thompson Creek at the time of the inspection.
-The operator has the water rights for all of the water flowing from the#1 and#3 mines and uses them as a
developed water resource. Although sediment pond P-9 and the Refuse Pile Pond are no longer a part of the North
Thompson Creek Permit, the Division did look at these ponds to make sure they were stable and had adequate
capacity to hold the flow from Treatment Pond T-2. Both of these ponds appeared to be stable and both ponds had
adequate capacity to hold the discharge from Treatment Pond T-2.
ROADS—Rule 4.03 Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) Surfacing and
Maintenance4.03.1(5)and(6)/4.03.2(5)and(6)Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
-The remaining road has been approved as permanent and has been granted a Phase III Bond Release. The road
remains stable.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
-The entire site, with the exception of the 4.1 acres that comprise the water treatment system, has been granted a
full Phase III Bond Release. The site remains well vegetated and the reclamation is successful.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: None
This completes the Division's 7 June 2011 inspection of the North Thompson Creek Mine.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 3 of 7
