Colowyo Coal Company
?• 5731 State Highway 13
O Meeker, CO 81641
T:970-824-1500
Mr•
0
Exhibit 2A does not contain data for Lower Taylor Creek (LTC) for 2010. Please explain
O
why there is no data for this example, as well as explain any other gaps in the data.
Response. LTC is an ephemeral stream which Colowyo attempts to sample on a quarterly
basis. In 2010, there was no flow each time Colowyo's 3-d party consultant visited the
location to take a sample.
General Trends
Given the low R2 values for surface water data and groundwater data, it unclear why the
trend lines are shown on the graphs. Also, some of the trends (increasing or decreasing)
in the data tables on pages 2-3 to 2-7 are not reliable given the R2 values. Please focus
the discussion on the trends that are significant and relate to impacts on receiving waters.
These trends include, but are not limited to, increases in TDS in well MT-95-02 and
increases in several parameters at the Gossard well.
As noted above, more discussion is needed on the data. In a letter from Colowyo
(Jennifer Sekulski-Barton, July 15, 2010), Colowyo agreed to provide a written
interpretation of the water monitoring data in the 2010 AHR. This shall include any
mining related impacts and a discussion on whether the data confirm or refute the
probable hydrologic impact section of the permit.
Response.• R2 values for both surface water and groundwater data are shown for
consistency and for a visual representation of the data trends overtime. The trend data
shown on pages 2-4 through 2-8 has been updated to be consistent with the R2 values
shown on the graphs contained in Exhibit 2A.
A reference to the General Trends for Surface Water and General Trends for
Groundwater has been included in Section 2, subparagraph (iii). Colowyo felt the
discussion was more appropriate under this section in the AHR rather than in the
requested location. The discussion can be located on page 2-8.
After fully reviewingground water data Colowyo believes that the data is accurate and
in line with Colowyo's permit assumptions for probable hydrologic consequences and
will not have an effect on ground water quality, quantity, and post-mine land use.
