The Hopemore Shaft reclamation estimate is $30,000 and an Irrevocable Letter of Credit remains
in place for $30,500 from the First Mountain Bank of Leadville, CO. The Leadville Mill
reclamation estimate is $51,700 and an Irrevocable Letter of Credit remains in place for $51,700
from the Bank of Colorado of Yuma, CO.
Care and maintenance activities have occurred during the past year at both the mine and mill.
Additionally, major permitting efforts are underway at the mill. The mine property is physically
separated from the mill property and the activities at each property are reported below:
Hopemore Shaft:
1) The Hopemore Shaft continues operation as a tourist mine, but does not produce ore as an
active mine.
2) Permanent metal mine permit identification signs are maintained at the entrance to the
facility and on the mine building, identifying the permitee and permit number.
3) Permit boundary stakes are maintained as required.
4) Rehabilitation of the underground levels continued for tourist access.
5) Rehabilitation of the cage and mantrip continued.
6) Work continued on the tourist surface facilities/dry facilities.
7) Rehabilitation of the surface air compressors continued.
8) Construction of board walks, parking and view deck continued.
9) Sediment control measures were performed as required (cleaning culverts and
maintaining berms and roads at the entrance of the facility).
10) The weed control plan was implemented as required.
11) The Hopemore shaft does not meet the APEN submittal requirements as a tourist mine.
Leadville Mill:
1) Quarterly water quality sampling from monitoring well MW-1 continues. MW-1 had
insufficient water in the well during the summer, fall and winter sampling periods. The
sampling reports are presented in Appendix 1. A spring sample will be taken before the
end of June 2011 and reported with the next annual report.
2) Permanent metal mill permit identification signs are maintained on the main gate to the
facility and on the mill building, identifying the permitee and permit number.
Additionally, no trespassing signs and warning signs are maintained on the property
boundary (which includes the permit boundary) fence. The barbed wire property
boundary fence is repaired and tightened as needed.
3) Permit boundary stakes are maintained as required.
4) The mill buildings are maintained in preparation of reconditioning and restarting the mill.
The mill equipment continues to be operated as part of maintenance testing, but no
material has been processed by the equipment.
5) Sediment control measures are performed on an as needed basis (temporary silt fence
construction around the ore stockpiles). Additionally, culverts are cleaned, berms
maintained and roads maintained as required.
6) Ore stockpiles are covered with visqueen material as a temporary measure to minimize
acid generating potential of sulfitic ores. This visqueen material remains in place as long
as the material remains in place. This material has been replaced in June 2011 on all
three piles.
Annual Report M1990-057 June 10, 2011
