EXHIBITS: Included are a number of exhibits depicting the quarry and specific details within
the area of the quarry that are most important to the technical revision.
Exhibit 1: Pikeview Quarry scarp, south of the south peak, as it appeared in
December of 2008 immediately after the slide.
Exhibit 2: Pikeview Quarry scarp, south of the south peak, as it appeared in May of
2011.
Exhibit 3: The graben area north of the apex of the original slide area. Numbers
indicate prism locations.
Exhibit 4: Pikeview Quarry directly above prism #24 in the above picture. Scrap is much
larger.
Exhibit 5: Graben area behind the limestone face of the Pikeview Quarry, December
of 2008
Exhibit 6: Graben area behind the limestone face of the Pikeview Quarry, December
of 2010
Exhibit 7: Map of the proposed additional Forest Service land to be included in the
reclamation plan.
SCOPE OF WORK: During the last year our geotechnical consultant, along with our personnel,
have investigated the quarry and all but completed the amendment to the comprehensive mining
and reclamation plan based on the assumption that the decomposed granite below the limestone
is stable. However, during this time additional movement that has taken place within the quarry
that was not anticipated and as a result Castle Concrete has reason to question the stability of the
formation below the limestone.
As a result of this unanticipated movement, Castle Concrete has decided to perform extensive
geological work. Currently additional data is being obtained.
Based upon the investigative work which is currently ongoing, additional access to the US Forest
Service land may be needed to achieve the final reclamation layback. For the 2001 amendment
to the comprehensive mining and reclamation plan, a complete analysis of the US Forest Service
area west of the permit boundary, including an environmental impact statement, was conducted.
At that time, the US Forest Service lands above the south peak were not included in this study as
this area was not anticipated to be part of the layback for the reclamation plan. Since the 2008
slide, the south peak has been affected and it appears that the shaded portion of the map
identified in exhibit 7 may need to be accessed so as not to leave an excessively high wall at the
west edge of the current permit boundary due to the movement of the slide below.
