May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112 (d) Permit Application
A site specific soils investigation is presented in Section I - Soils Information. In
summary:
• the affected lands are located predominately on a single mapped unit - the
Nordicol stony loam;
• the unit is formed on Jurassic sedimentary rock as described in Section 6.4.20(8)
with slopes approximately 30-35°;
• weathered sandstone is predominate throughout the profile;
• topsoil is generally less than 6" and is mixed with weathered sandstone gravels
and cobbles; and
• areas that have been historically cleared (roads, benches) show very good re-
growth without any fertilizer or amendment.
• Soil salvaging and stockpiling will not be undertaken for the following reasons:
• the collection of topsoil on the steep slopes will be difficult;
• the separation of topsoil from the weathered bedrock would greatly reduce the
volume of topsoil to be salvaged;
• the limited area to store stockpiled topsoil; and
• the fact that natural regeneration on disturbed areas indicates that topsoil is not
required for reclamation.
(c) Analysis
Analytical data is presented in Section I - Soils Information.
(i) In summary, the <2mm fraction is a loamy texture, with pH approximately 7.5-
8.5. Organic matter concentrations ranged from approximately 3-8% at the surface to
<2% in the subsurface. Exchangeable cations are dominated by calcium with
negligible sodium.
(ii) Based on field observations and analytical results, there are no problematic soils
at the site and the regeneration of native vegetation on historically disturbed land is
extensive.
(iii) Nitrogen concentrations are just below an acceptable level of 0.07% (700ppm)
and phosphorus concentrations are very low. NRCS recommends the use of nitrogen
as a fertilizer as described in Exhibit H - Reclamation Plan.
(iv) No experiments will be undertaken to determine soil amendment requirements.
6.4.20(18) Wildlife Protection
(a) Mitigation Measures
Wildcat Mining Corporation will adhere to all measures recommended by CDOW
outlined in Exhibit H Attachment H-2
REVISED June 5, 2011
May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112(d) Permit Application
September 21, 2010
18
