May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112 (d) Permit Application
Potassium amyl xanthate will be stored within a separately locked above ground
storage unit. The storage unit will be sealed and bermed.
(ii) Surface Water Diversion
For areas where surface water in the form of stormwater may be present, surface
water diversions (BMPs) will be implemented as outlined in the Metal Mining
General Permit Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) (Attachment T-4). No
surface water will be encountered underground where the milling activities will
occur. All chemicals planned for use will be used in very small quantities.
Additionally, berms will be put in place surrounding any locations where
chemicals are stored on site and where chemicals are used in the subsurface in
the mill.
(ii) Surface Water Diversion
Surface water diversion will occur through the implementation of BMPs
described in the Metal Mining General Permit Stormwater Management Plan
(SWMP).
(b) Storm Water Management Plan
A Metal Mining General Storm Water management Plan has been prepared for submittal
to the CDPBE. A copy of the plan is provided in Attachment T-4. The plan has been
prepared under the direction of a Colorado Professional Engineer. The plan
describes design and operating procedures to minimize or prevent fuel, lubricants,
industrial chemicals and designated chemicals impacting surface or groundwater
resources.
6.4.20(11) Surface Water Quality Data
(a) Existing Surface Water Receiving Water Stream Standards
The Stream Classification is as follows:
Region: 9
Basin: La Plata River, Mancos River, McElmo Creek, and San Juan River in Montezuma
County and Dolores County
Stream Segment Description: Mainstem of the La Plata River, including all wetlands,
tributaries, lakes, and reservoirs, from the source to the Hay Gulch diversion south of
Hesperus.
The following classifications are applicable to this segment:
• Aquatic Life Cold 1
REVISED June 5, 2011
May Day Idaho Mine Complex 112(d) Permit Application
September 21, 2010
12
