The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article
33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on May 20, 2011, an application to
renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the Edna Strip Mine was considered complete
for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining
Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of filing.
Chevron Mining, Inc. has applied for a permit renewal (RN6) for the Edna Mine. The mine is a reclaimed
surface mine on land located approximately 5 miles Northwest of Oak Creek, Colorado. The pennittee has
previously applied for final (Phase III) bond release for the remaining portions of the mine. No additional
mining is proposed for this permit term. The applicant is only proposing maintaining the current
reclamation. The permit area is further described as follows:
T5N, R85W, Portions of Sections 31, 32
T5N, R86W, Portions of Section 36
T4N, R86W, Portions of Sections 12, 13, 14, 23, 24, 25
T4N, R85W, Portions of Sections 7, 8, 17, 18, 19, 29, 30
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Oak Creek,
Rattlesnake Butte, and Cow Camp.
No additional surface disturbance is proposed as a result of this revision application. As a result, the
Division does not anticipate additional impacts to wildlife.
The applicant is required to publish notice in the Steamboat Pilot that this permit renewal application has
been deemed complete. At the time of publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to
