u_dang ?ec amat .on Success
W'-en the m i nes were oermi t Led t".e ear'; y 1 980' s , a very 11 arge
area was planned for surface d i s zurbance . Original l y . 4 underground
longwail mines were planned at high production rates. An old map
from the original permitting was found which snows the proposed
d'sturbed area at that time. It is included as Exhibit M-1A. By
overlaying this map on Exhibit K-1, which delineates the pre-
exist-Mg vegetative commun i ties , It -is seen that the or i g i na l m, r.e
pear, contemplated a large disturbance in the meadow community. Many
samples were taken in the meadow area east of Highway 13.
Exhibit C-7 shows the cwrrert. disturbed area, which was reclaimed
-,n 1 986 . By overlaying this map on Exh i b i t K-1, it i s seen that the
disturbed area is comprised o` land that, when the mires were
originally permitted in the 1980's, consisted of mountain shrub
community, b i g sage community, pre-law mine disturbance and a small
portion of meadow community at the Northern #1 Mine.
From the baseline vegetation section of the permit, Chapter K, the
total vegetative cover for each of the communities is as shown
below:
Meadow Community: 97.8% See page K-14 of permit.
Big Sage Community: 65.2% See page K-18 of permit.
mountain Shrub Community: 65.1% See page K-24 of permit.
Exhibit K-1 shows that almost the entire area of the Rienau #2 mine
was previously disturbed by pre-law mining. Judging from the
terrain and the surrounding communities, it is safe to estimate
that the R i enau #2 pond area was or i g i na i y located -in the b i g sage
community and the mine area on the west side of Highway 13 was
located in the mountain shrub community.
The refuse area is located in land that was originally big sage
community. The Northern 41 topsoil stockpile area was also located
.In the big sage community.
The Northern #1 Mine area was located in portions of big sage,
mountain shrub and meadow. For this reason, the original surveyed
rec'amation map of the mine area at a scale of 1"=100' has been
used to delineate the original vegetative communities. !t
included in this section as Exhibit1-18.
Rev?? gltO\ .0 ( -t2?
