RESULTS --------------------------------------------------------------------------
ABSOLUTE COVER (First hit data): Tables 3 and 4
First hit cover data for each of the 26 transects is listed in Table 3. Total
vegetative cover was estimated at 60.9%. Total perennial, non-noxious vegetative
cover was only slightly lower at 59.1 %, which constitutes 97 % of the total amount of
cover. This indicates that the overwhelming majority of the established vegetation is
not annual, biennial, or noxious in nature. Noxious weeds summed to 0.7% absolute
cover while annual and biennials summed to 1.2%. Both the total and the total
perennial, non-noxious cover values exceed the success threshold of 58.62%, indicating
that the mine area has been successfully revegetated from the standpoint of absolute
cover.
Table 4 summarizes the cover data by subunit. Although there are variations in
the quantities of individual species across the reclaimed subunits, the consistencies
predominate. The Rienau No. 2 data is the lowest at 51.7% as would be expected
considering how late in the season it was collected. Had it been collected with the
other data, it could have been expected to have a more typical value (closer to 60%), as
was the case in the 1992 .data.
SPECIES DIVERSITY (Multiple hit data): Tables 5 and 6
Over the entire site, perennial non-noxious species predominated. Of the 36
plant species encountered during multiple hit cover sampling, only 2 noxious and 7
annual/biennial species were intercepted. The number of vegetative hits per transect
7
