May 11, 2011 C-19 81-044/Williams Fork Mines JRS
RECLAMATION SUCCESS—Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
-The reclaimed areas of the mine were well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. All of the
vegetation was starting to grow at this time. There were scattered thistle plants observed around the site. Moffat
County Mining will need to spray for thistle and other weeds this spring.
-All of the areas where Russian Knapweed was observed last year were checked. While there was evidence of the
knapweed from last year, the plants have not started to grow yet this year. Moffat County Mining will need to
closely monitor the entire mine site this spring and spray the Russian Knapweed as it begins to emerge. All of the
areas of the mine, including the Williams Fork Strip Pit,will need to be watched and sprayed as needed. The
operator will need to pay particular attention to the areas that were noted last year. These areas include the
embankment of the Mine 5 dewatering ponds (5-P5, 5-P6 and 5-P7),the edges of the haul road on the west side of
the amine(south of the railroad bridge)the field behind the reclaimed refuse pile, the field by sediment pond SH-P2
and the berm south of the coal stockpile areas. These and any other areas where Russian Knapweed is found will
probably need to be sprayed this spring and in late fall.
SIGNS AND MARKERS—Rule 4.02:
-Jerry Nettleton has indicated that new mine ID signs have been received for the Williams Fork Mine.
These signs need to be installed at all of the mine entrance locations. The Division requests that Moffat County
Mining place a mine ID sign at the main gate to the mine(on the east side of Colorado Highway 13)as opposed to
its current location, which is at the"Y"to the east and west parts of the mine approximately 100 yards inside the
gate. The reason for this is that the mine is generally closed and the sign inside the gate is not visible from the
gate.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED:None
This completes the 11 May 2011 inspection report for the Williams Fork Mines.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 5
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 4 of 6
