6.44(b)
Revised 1/27/2011
DRMS Quest # 7 & 8
a commitment to a QA/QC acceptable to the Division is also provided in Exhibit E.
• Some portions of the proposed reservoir expansion area will need to be
disturbed in order to construct the slurry wall prior to beginning mining. These
areas include access roads, work area, slurry wall trench line work area,
equipment and supplies storage area, access to overburden suitable for slurry wall
construction, and portions of the proposed overburden and topsoil stockpiles.
Not all excavated slurry wall trench overburden may be suitable for slurry wall
construction. Therefore, an onsite source, within the proposed pit area, may be
needed to be available.
• Water pipelines:
Pipeline interconnects will be constructed (AFTER MINING) as part of the
developed water resource reclamation plan. The pipelines will include,. but be
limited to, a 36 inch valved connection from existing Goose Haven No. 1 to
proposed Goose Haven No. 2 as well as a 36 inch valved connection from
existing Goose Haven No. 3 to proposed Goose Haven No. 2. (THE
INTERCONNECTS WILL CONFORM TO SEO STANDARDS.)
The buried pipelines will be installed in excavated trenches with appropriate
bedding materials, obtained from the sand and gravel extraction operation.
Trenches and placement of the ductile iron 36"diameter waterlines will be
accomplished using equipment suitable for such construction, such as long reach
backhoes, draglines, dozers, frontend loaders and motor-graders. Upon
completion of pipeline installation, all associated affected lands will be reclaimed
according to the approved reclamation plan.
• Subsurface Drain:
Based on the ground water investigation conducted by CTL Thompson
(Attachment III), an under drain will be constructed (Attachment II) along the
south side of the proposed reservoir AT THE TIME THE SLURRY WALL IS
CONSTRUCTED to reduce the ground water rise resulting from the construction of
Reservoir #2. The drain will free flow and empty into Reservoir #1 to the north.
The drain will effectively prevent any significant rise in the ground water
elevation in areas to the south and south west of the proposed expansion.
(c) Water diversions and impoundment:
There are no water diversions or impoundments affected by the proposed mining and
reclamation plan. .
