Equity Exploration Project
6-2.2 Project Scope
PHASEI
Phase I will include rehabilitating and stabilizing the Equity Mine portal to allow access to the
main decline and reopening and stabilizing the ventilation drift. The purpose of this first phase
of work is to provide safe access for Hecla personnel: to check the water level in the
underground development and evaluate the condition of the workings between the Equity
portal, the ventilation adit and back to the borehole. Reopening of the Equity Mine portal is
scheduled to start in mid to late June 2011, depending on weather conditions and the ability to
obtain permits to conduct Phase I activities which are listed below.
• Remove rock talus cover and plug fill from portal entrance. The plug is expected to be from
surface and continue to approximately 50 feet into the portal entrance.
• Remove rock talus fill from ventilation drift and rehabilitate, as necessary, the supporting
steel set structure.
• Rehabilitate main portal and ventilation opening, steel set structure and continuing
approximately 200 feet from the Equity portal and ventilation adit entrances. Refer to
attached Figure 4 - Phase I.
• Install a steel gate at portal entrance and on the ventilation drift access, with backward-
facing hinges and a "reach-under" box welded to the door to protect the security lock.
• Re-establish services as required to perform rehabilitation work.
PHASE II
The scope of the Phase II work will be dependent on the evaluation of the underground development
after the completion of Phase I.
Phase II will include rehabilitation of the remaining drift after Phase I between the Equity portal,
ventilation adit and bore hole. Establish ventilation and rehabilitate the main decline and ventilation
