2"d Geochemistry Review 5 3 May 2011
May Day Conversion CN-1 File No. M-1981-185
22) Water Quality Data. The data reported in various tables are suspicious and appear to
contain errors. For example, the hardness for SW-1 on 5/2010 is reported as 0.052 mg/L,
which is implausible given the concentrations of calcium and magnesium. Also, between
5/2010 and 2/2011, the silver concentration of SW-1 is reported to increase 4 to 5 orders
of magnitude from <0.00005 mg/L to 1.3 mg/L, while the iron and manganese
concentrations decrease by more than 3 orders of magnitude. Anomalous variations or
values are also seen elsewhere, e.g., 7.58 mg/L Nitrite in DG-2 on 11/2010 (this appears
to be an erroneously transcribed pH value). The Applicant needs to provide corrected
tables or, alternatively if the data are correct, suggest an explanation for these incredible
variations in water quality.
23) Detection limits for some regulated constituents are above the regulatory limits. The
Applicant is advised that detection limits must be at or below the regulatory limits for the
data to be acceptable to DBMS.
