Belleview Ave., Suite 1100
Englewood, CO 80111
Re: Klondike Prospect, Notice of Intent (NOI), File No. P-2011-008, Preliminary Adequacy Review
Dear Mr. Cappa,
The Division Has reviewed the NOI materials that were submitted, and has identified several items that must be
further clarified or addressed. Please respond to each item below:
Acreage
The affected acreage is described as 0.18 acres, but it seems to only include the pads and trenches. Since there may
be some road improvements, those road areas may have to be included in the acreage also, depending on the degree
of improvement and/or the requirement to reclaim the roads. Please state whether any of the roads will be
"significantly improved" (i.e., widened, gradient reduced, or realigned), or whether the US Forest Service requires
that any of their affected roads have to be reclaimed to any degree (such as culvert removal or barrier installation).
Any new roads must be included in the affected acreage, even if they do not require reclamation. If the original
acreage figure is incorrect, please provide a revised figure.
Concerning the 0.18 acres of affected area, please ensure that it includes the areas around the trenches where topsoil
and excavated materials are stockpiled, as well as sufficient areas for reclamation equipment to maneuver. If the
original acreage figure is incorrect, please provide a revised figure.
Excavation and Disposal of Muck
The muck to be removed from the adits will be relocated to private (BLMC) land. The anticipated estimate of the
volume of muck to be excavated is presented as "50.00," but there are no units provided. Please explain.
The muck will be moved to a stockpile location on private land. Please describe whether the stockpiles will be
temporary or placed there permanently. Please provide an estimate of the area to be occupied by the muck, how
runoff or sloughing will be controlled, and how the pile surfaces will be shaped for long term stability. Finally,
please state whether the muck pile(s) will be reclaimed in any additional manner, such as capping or vegetation.
Drilling Activity
The plan states that no groundwater is expected to be intercepted, therefore the bond amount and closure methods
will be based on that information. Please note that if groundwater is encountered closure must include sealing the
bore hole from bottom to top with cement or abandonment gel to isolate and protect the aquifer.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
