Applicant's Response:
A revision has been made to the application. Please see the attached page
12. The Applicant has stated they will follow NRCS recommendations for the application of
soil amendments. Soil amendments should only be applied where soil tests indicate nutrient
deficiencies, for the plant species to be established. The addition of major nutrients such as
nitrogen could lead to an increase in weed growth. Please commit to performing soil tests prior
to applying soil amendments.
Applicant's Response:
The commitment has been included in the application. Please see the attached page
13. Please clarify if the applicant will apply 20 tons of manure per acre.
Applicant's Response:
We have committed to applying 20 tons of manure per acre. Please see the attached page
14. The Reclamation Plan calls for planting western wheatgrass and crested wheatgrass.
The Division requests the Applicant consider adding several more grass species to the seed mix,
preferably native grasses. Tlie Applicant will have a greater chance of success/ully establishing
vegetation with a more diverse seed mix.
Applicant's Response:
Additional species have been added. Please see the attached page
IS. The reclaimed reservoir will have a fetch distance greater- than 1,000 feet. As such, there
is the potential the pit slopes could be eroded from wave action. Please describe how the
reclaimed reservoir shorelines will be protected from erosion.
Applicant's Response:
The existing reservoirs do not have continuous bank rip-rap to protect against shoreline erosion.
The shorelines of the existing reservoirs show evidence of minor erosion only which has been
stabilized by the City with small (6" minus) diameter cobble on an as-needed basis. Please see
the enclosed photographs of the existing reservoirs shorelines. The City of Lafayette prefers at
this time, due to the cost of having to import rip-rap or install other erosion control measures, to
not be required to install protections during site reclamation. Even if shoreline erosion does
become an issue, all the reservoirs are the property of the City of Lafayette and will be
maintained as necessary to ensure the safety and utility of the facility for the City of Lafayette
use.
