5. Reveaetation Plan
The areas being reclaimed will be harrowed and drill seeded in the spring and fall with a mix
consisting of the following in order to control erosion:
Species (Dry Lands
Seed Mix) Broadcast
Seeding, % of Mix Precip Range,
Inches
Soil Type
Grasses: 70.0
Sand Dropseed 25.0 5-15 Sandy to medium texture
Galleta 25.0 5-16 Coarse to fine
Sandberg Bluegrass 20.0 6-2 3 an y to Medium
Forbs: 10.0
Western arrow 5.0 Dry to moist Sandy
car ett g o ma ow 5.0 Dry Sandy to Clayey
Shrubs: 20.0
Forage Kochia 2.5 6-16 Sandy to Clayey

Winterfat
15.0
6+ Sandy, low to moderate sal
ok

Green ephedra
2.5
6-15 Sandy, saline, alkaline an
sodic ok
0
This seed mix will also be used on the topsoil stockpile for temporary cover. These grasses have
proven to do well in the dry lowland environment of western Colorado. They will prevent
erosion and do provide forage and cover for animals. Certified weed free hay or straw mulch will
also be applied at the rate of 2000 lbs/acre. The mulch will be crimped into the ground to provide
soil stabilization.
6. Post-Reclamation Site Drainage
The only water that will be encountered in the reclaimed land will be from precipitation. The
groundwater table is well below the pit floor. There is only a small amount of land to the south
that will flow into the permit area. This flow will not be diverted around the site but will be
captured within the islands for the vegetation or will be detained in the sediment pond. All onsite
flows will end up in a sediment pond either in Mining Area 1.2 or 4. The sediment ponds will
be left in place after the site is reclaimed to encourage wildlife use of the site.
Craig Ranch Pit, March 2011 E-4
