CMCDO1458
Climax Mine - Robinson Lake Pump Station Replacement
Eagle County 1041 Application Submittal
The system design provides three vertical turbine-can pumps (two operating and one standby) to reclaim
water through a 21,300-foot long, 24-inch carbon steel and 30-inch HDPE pipeline to a two million gallon
mill process water storage tank. Approximately 8,000 feet of 24-inch standard weight carbon steel pipe
will be used in the first section (leaving the pump station towards the mill) of the reclaim pipeline in order
to withstand the 350 psig pressure. When operating pressure along the pipeline drops below 200 psig,
the 30-inch HDPE pipe will be installed for the remainder of the route to discharge into the mill storage
tank. Details of the SDR schedule for the HDPE pipe is presented below. The maximum design flow for
the Robinson Lake pump station is 10,000 gpm.
__ Description Value
Robinson Lake Pump Station:
_.... ._.._......_..__._._._ -...... __-- - -.---.__._
__...__Pumping capacity 8,670 g..P._? --.---
Pumping capacity (design) 10,000 gpm
Pump elevation
10,818 ft
Discharge elevation (Mill water tank)
?_-- 11,500 ft
_ Conveyance line length -?
- 21,260 ft
Conve ance line
Carbon Steel -_?-- __ 8,760 ft
-
HDPE SDR 9
--._.._.__..-_.._._..------- - 4,920 ft
--- -----41- 0 ft -----
HDPE SDR 11 5,300 ft
HDPE SDR 15.5
......... _-...... _....._._...... _......... _.-.
2,280 ft
Pumps
--
Number of Pump _s A2 o erating, 1 standby) 3
Head (feet) 800 ft
`-_ Type Vertical Turbine Can

Flow Rate ...(eachL- --..._...... -- _...-- - --.._._...-.-_ -
...---=- -- 5,000_.gpm----
Motor (HP) 1500
The Robinson Lake Pump Station building is designed as an all steel pre-fabricated building. No potable
water or sanitary sewer systems are designed to be included in this building. Heating to the building will
be electric radiant heat. The instrumentation and controls for the pumping systems will include
emergency shut-off to the pumps and a fire alarm system reporting to the mill operators.
The general arrangement and dimensions of the building are shown on Drawing 540-S-ST-101
(Attachment A). The dimensions of the building include a width of nearly 60 feet, length of 126 feet and
height of 40 feet.
A geotechnical investigation was performed to evaluate the depth to bedrock and assess the bedrock
qualities as they relate to foundation excavation and design.
r
4
