•

•
these studies (reclaimed and reference areas) is included as Table 8 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes
used in the reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix 3. Photographs of
representative locations within the reclaimed areas sampled in 2010, as well as photographs of
Mountain Brush and Sagebrush/Snowberry Reference areas, are included in Appendix 4.
Calculations related to evaluation of data under permit-prescribed tests of species diversity are
set forth in Appendix 5. Calculations related to determination of allowable cover and sample
adequacy are presented in Appendix 6. Graphs of vegetation and climate data are presented in
Figures 1 through 8 of this report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point-
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute all-hit data only. Percentages are
rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
Phase 11 Bond Release Area
(Photographs 1 through 8)
COVER
(Table 1)
Introduced perennial cool season grasses, native perennial cool season grasses and introduced
perennial forbs were the predominant lifeforms observed in the Phase II Bond Release Area,
contributing 18.5, 8.0 and 6.6 percent all-hit vegetation cover respectively. Introduced annual and
biennial forbs, native perennial (orbs and native shrubs contributed 3.4, 1.6, and 1.3 percent all-
hit cover, respectively. Introduced perennial cool season grass cover was composed mostly of
intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium), smooth brome (8romopsis inermis), and
orchard grass (Dactylis g/omerata). Native perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly
composed of western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii), thickspike wheatgrass (Elymus
lanceolatus fm. dasystachya) and basin wildrye (Leymus cinereus). Introduced perennial forb
cover total was composed mostly of alfalfa (Medicago sativa). Also observed in the area were the
noxious weeds hound's tongue (Cynoglossum officinale), white-top (Cardaria draba), bull thistle
(Cirsium vulgare), and Canada thistle (Breea arvensis).
Total average vegetation cover for all hits was 40.7 percent. For herbaceous vegetation, total
average cover for all hits was 38.4 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock
8
