Peabody Sage Creek Mine
SL-1 Phase 11 Bond Release Request
• References : Rohlf, F.J. and R.R. Sokal. 1969. Statistical Tables. W.H. Freeman and
Company, San Francisco.
• Water Quality - Total Suspended Solids (TSS)Monitoring Results
March 2011
The Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit has a TSS limit of 35 mg/l (monthly
average) and a 70 mg/1 daily limit that can not be exceeded. Water quality statistics have
been run for the two (2) ponds that discharge off-site. The statistics were compiled for the
previous five (5) year period and show the following results:
Pond 002 - 11.1 mg/1(average), 22.0 mg/1 maximum
Pond 004 - 8.1 mg/1(average), 22.0 maximum
PECOCO Pond - 7.6 mg/I (average), 12 mg/I maximum
In addition the background levels for the receiving streams upstream of the confluences are
significantly higher than the discharges from the Phase II request area.
• The monitoring results show that the TSS levels do not exceed the criteria limits set by the
State of Colorado. Supporting data are contained in Attachment F, Water Quality
Monitoring Results.
• Permanent Impoundment Documentation
The existing sedimentation ponds were approved as permanent impoundments (formerly part
of Seneca II) in Seneca II Technical Revision 37 (TR-37) in September 2006. The
documentation regarding the permanent impoundments is contained in the Seneca 11 Permit
Document at the locations indicated below:
- Appendix 7-6a, Sediment Pond 002 (Permanent Wadge Impoundment)
- Appendix 7-6c.2, Sediment Pond 004 Permanent Impoundment Demonstration
- Appendix 7-6g, Permanent Impoundment PECOCO
•
13
