Permit Amendment (AM-06) - Climax Mine
•
•
CM0000477
Table T-1: Climax Mine Permits and Authorizations (Cont.)
Agency Item Description Status Term/Ex .
Colorado Department Biosolids Permit # Site management of Current Life of Project
of Public Health and CO-00000016 biosolids
Environment;
Biosolids
Management
Program
U.S. Environmental Biosolids Notice of Site management of Current Life of Project
Protection Agency - Authorization biosolids and
Region 8 composting
o erations
Colorado Department TMDL TMDL -Segment 1 b, Current Monitoring
of Public Health and COARUA01b Arkansas River completed 12/31/06
Environment; Water Monitoring
Quality Control
Division
U.S. Army Corps of 404- NWP #27 Authorized John Current Annual monitoring
Engineers Reed wetland and reporting
restoration work
U.S. Army Corps of Permit CO-OYT- Authorized East Fork 1985- Closure request
Engineers 0211 Arkansas Current when site is deemed
construction and reclaimed
restoration work
T-3 Designated Chemicals
The chemicals listed and discussed herein are those used specifically in: 1) the extractive metallurgical
processing of molybdenite ore to produce MoS2 concentrate; and 2) the wastewater treatment system at
Climax. The Climax Mine presently is not producing molybdenum concentrates, thus most of the
designated chemicals associated with metallurgical processing . are not currently present on site.
However, since all or some of these chemicals may again be utilized when operations recommence, their
discussion is relevant.
The information provided regarding designated chemicals is presented as the best information currently
available. These chemicals, quantities, and concentrations may vary based upon production needs and
processes. For example, brand name chemicals such as (but not limited to) Empicol (Syntex) or Nalco
9741 may be changed out for different brands of similar chemicals based on factors such as cost,
effectiveness, material handling requirements related to safety, or environmental reasons. Changes in
brand and reagent usage are a part of the production process and are not considered to be grounds for
notification to the DRMS. However, notification to the DRMS will be made per the review/reporting
discussed in Section T-1.1.2 in the event that: 1) new types of chemicals, not discussed herein, are
added to the process; 2) the storage location of a designated chemical is changed; or 3) the specific
containment facility for a designated chemical must be enlarged.
TR-14 described the new mill and accessory buildings for use during resumed production. The final
design and layout of the mill and accessory buildings has not yet been developed. TR-14 implicitly
designated the mill building as a location for several Environmental Protection Facilities (EPFs)
associated with designated chemicals. Specific EPFs will be identified as appropriate when the mill and
reagent storage area design is complete. Climax will submit additional technical revisions regarding new
facilities and operating plans, as necessary, prior to recommencement of production.
T-3.1 List of Chemicals and Specific Locations
Designated chemicals used at Climax during periods of production and for on-going water treatment are
listed in Table T-2. The table includes the list of designated chemicals used in the froth flotation
Exhibit T T-5 May 2010
