Permit Amendment (AM-06) - Climax Mine
CM0000478
metallurgical process for concentrating MoS2, and for informational purposes, also lists water treatment
chemicals and dust palliatives that will also be used on site. A portion of these chemicals are not
currently stored onsite, but may be located on site during periods of production. Future storage locations
of chemicals not currently on site are provided based on best available information.
Table T-2: Desianated and Other Chemicals at the Climax Mine
Chemical Type i3< Product Name Currently Storage Location
Use Onsite
Froth Flotation - Designated Chemicals
Collector Nalco TX 13976 or No Reagent Area of Mill
equivalent
Frother Nalco 9741 or No Reagent Area of Mill
equivalent
Emulsifying/Frothing Empicol (Syntex) No Reagent Area of Mill
Agent (Soap)
Regrind Frother Glycol Ether No Reagent Area of Mill
Depressants - Designated Chemicals
Iron Depressant Orfom D8 No Reagent Area of Mill
Iron and Copper Sodium Cyanide No Reagent Area of Mill
Depressant NaCN
Lead and Copper Nokes P2S5 + No Reagent Area of Mill
Depressant NaOH
Water Treatment Chemicals
Flocculant GreatFloc 5500 or Yes Sludge Densification
equivalent Plant SDP
pH Adjustment, Calcium Oxide Mill, Lime Station,
Hydroxide (CaO, Lime, Yes SDP, 3 Dam Pump
precipitation of quicklime) Station
metal ions
pH adjustment to Sulfuric Acid Mayflower/5 Dam
meet discharge (H2SO4) Yes Pump Station
standards
This information is also included in Table 1 of the Climax Mine SPCC/MCP. More specific information
regarding location and storage of these chemicals is found in Section T-5.3.2. Detailed information
regarding affects on human health and the environment is found in the MSDS data in Appendix T-A and
in the pertinent portions of the SPCC and MCP. It should be noted that the SPCC/MCP may include
references to chemicals (non-designated) and fuels not regulated by DRMS under HRMMR Rule 6,
including petroleum products regulated through the SPCC Regulations at 40 CFR Part 112.
T-3.2 Known Potential to Affect Human Health and the Environment
Collector
A collector reagent 'collects' the molybdenum in a froth flotation extraction process allowing the
molybdenum to float to the surface of the float cells. Nalco TX 13976 (or equivalent) will be used as a
collector/cleaner (regrind) reagent in the milling process. Nalco TX 13976 is a combustible petroleum
distillate. Aside from being combustible, Nalco TX 13976 is an aspiration hazard and a skin and eye
irritant. Nalco TX 13976 may be a carcinogen.
In the environment, Nalco TX 13976 reacts similar to other petroleum distillates and can cause short-term
damage to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Spills should be contained with inert absorbents, and
contaminated soils should be removed.
•
17?
Exhibit T T-6 May 2010
