Permit Amendment (AM-06) - Climax Mine
Robinson Lake or Mayflower TSF.
G-2.4.8 East Side Channel - Robinson Section
The East Side Channel (ESC) has been completed along the east side of Robinson TSF. The channel
currently conveys process water from the Robinson Pond water pool and areas tributary to the Robinson Pond
through the 2 Dam Spillway to Tenmile TSF.
G-2.4.9 East Tailing Delivery Line
The East Tailing Delivery Line (ETDL) extends from the mill area to 3 Dam and is now used to convey process
water to the treatment system. The line consists primarily of 36-inch-diameter and 42-inch-diameter concrete
pipe that is installed on the ground surface.
G-2.4.10 DSM Interceptors
The DSM Interceptors are actually several separate interceptor systems that collect process water from
impacted areas and discharge into the ETDL. The system includes the South Camp Interceptor, North Camp
Interceptor, Ore Dump Interceptor, and the McNulty Interceptor.
G-2.4.11 5 Dam (Mayflower) Seepwater Pump System
The 5 Dam Seepwater Pump System consists of a seepage collection system at the toe of 5 Dam, a pump
station and a pipeline that conveys this water to the 3 Dam Seepwater Pump System.
•
G-2.4.12 3 Dam Seepwater Pump System
The 3 Dam Seepwater Pump System consists of a seepage collection system along the toe of 3 Dam, a pump
station and a pipeline that conveys this water to the Sludge Densification Plant (SDP) for treatment. The
pumped flow also includes 5 Dam seepage.
G-2.4.13 Mayflower Decant System
The Mayflower Decant System is used to convey water from the water pool on Mayflower TSF to Tenmile
Creek downstream of 5 Dam. The system consists of decant risers that feed into two parallel 42-inch-
diameter decant lines.
G-2.5 Water Treatment
The current water treatment process at the site generally consists of two-stage pH adjustment using slaked
lime. First-stage treatment consists of raising the pH of the water to circumneutral, followed by precipitation of
solids in a clarifier or water pool. Second-stage treatment consists of raising the pH to about 9.5, again
followed by precipitation of solids in a clarifier or water pool. After second-stage treatment, the effluent is
neutralized using sulfuric acid prior to discharge into Tenmile Creek. The primary facilities currently used for
water treatment are the Lime Station, SDP, Tenmile TSF, Mayflower TSF, and Mayflower pH Control System.
The Sludge Densification Plant (SDP) was commissioned in the fall of 2007 to improve first-stage water
treatment capabilities at the site. The primary purpose of the SDP is to generate dense sludge from the
highest solid generating waters at the site, as well as to improve the removal of aluminum and molybdenum.
The maximum capacity of the SDP is approximately 6,900 gpm. Flows above this capacity are routed directly
to first-stage treatment in the Tenmile TSF as described below.
The impacted waters from the underground mine workings (5-Shaft), the Storke area, Camp area, E and F
Dumps, and McNulty OSF are collected and delivered to the SDP through the former ETDL. Impacted waters
from 1 Dam, 4 Dam, and the Robinson Lake area are collected and conveyed to the SDP through the
Warren's Pump System and 2 Dam Pipeline. Lastly, impacted waters from 3 Dam and 5 Dam are collected
and conveyed to the SDP through the 5 Dam Seepwater Pump System and 3 Dam Seepwater Pump System.
Less impacted waters tributary to Tenmile TSF bypass the SDP and flow directy into Tenmile TSF water pool.
CM0000077
Exhibit G G-4 May 2010
