54.03 ROADS <br /> <br />4.03.2 Access Roads. <br />(4) (b) <br />(i) All exposed surface areas within cut and fill <br />slopes were revegetated after construction of <br />access roads, as described in Section 2.05.4 <br />Reclamation Plan - General Requirements. <br />(ii) Riprap and vegetative sediment filters have <br />been used at selected places. Riprap has been <br />placed at required drainage structures. Straw <br />dikes are most commonly used at areas of tem- <br />porary construction. See Strata Dike Specifi- <br />cations Surface Water Appendix. A11 drainage <br />structures reduce overland flow velocity, re- <br />duce run-off volume or trap sediment. <br />A special sediment trap was constructed a[ the <br />shop level to increase trapping of sediment. <br />This trap is maintained on a regular basis. <br />• <br />(iii) Colorado Westmoreland Inc. is prepared to em- <br />ploy additional measures if those presently in <br />use do not sat isEactorily minimize erosion, <br />resultant siltation, and disturbance of the <br />prevailing hydrological balance. No such ad- <br />ditional measures are believed necessary at <br />this time. <br />(c) The access roads have drainage ditches at the toe of <br />cu[ slopes and cross drain culverts have been con- <br />structed at selected intervals. All cross drain cul- <br />verts at switchbacks or fills discharge water below the <br />fill. No access roads have been constructed without <br />drainage diCChes to minimize erosion on the roadbed. <br />(d) The access roads have been gravel surfaced to maximize <br />usage based on traffic and the weight and speed of ve- <br />hicles. 'This sloped gravel surface prevents ponding, <br />provides erosion control and provides road surface sta- <br />bilty.
