Connell Resources Timnath Pit
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan
Revision Date: June 25, 2009
Section 17.0 Bulk Storage Containers [112.8(c)]
Page 17-1
Section 17.0 Bulk Storage Containers [112.8(c)]
Appendix B lists the bulk oil storage tanks at the Facility.
17.1 Compatibility [112.8(c)(1)]
The bulk oil storage tanks are compatible with their contents and the conditions of storage.
The oil storage tanks are not pressurized. The tanks operate at approximately atmospheric
temperature.
17.2 Secondary Containment [112.8(c)(2)]
For the freeboard calculation, 110% capacity of the largest tank in each secondary
containment area was utilized. Appendix B provides the secondary containment
calculations for the containment areas.
The tanks do have sufficient secondary containment. Appendix B contains information on
tank secondary containment systems including secondary containment volume calculations,
where applicable.
The tank secondary containment areas are constructed of materials that are sufficiently
impermeable to hold the spill until discovery by Facility personnel including the following:
• Concrete
• Steel
• Earth
17.3 Diked Area Drainage [112.8(c)(3)]
The drainage systems used on the secondary containment areas are kept closed except
when draining precipitation from the secondary containment area.
After visual observation for contamination, precipitation is removed under supervision.
Appendix C contains the specific form and the standard operating procedure for inspecting,
draining, and documenting rainwater accumulation in secondary containment areas.
Completed Diked Area Drainage Report Forms are kept in the Pit Files at the main office.
17.4 Buried Metallic Storage Tanks [112.8(c)(4)]
Not Applicable - The Facility does not have buried metallic storage tanks.
