Connell Resources Timnath Pit
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan
Revision Date: June 25, 2009
Section 5.0 Potential Spill Predictions, Volumes, Rates, and Control [112.7(b)]
Page 5-1
Section 5.0 Potential Spill Predictions, Volumes, Rates, and Control [112.7(b)]
The location of the facility relative to nearby navigable waterways is shown on Figure 1 in
Appendix A. The potential flow of surface runoff on the facility (i.e., a visual spill prediction)
is shown on Figure 2 in Appendix A.
A spill from the Facility would flow south to a stormwater conveyance system that
discharges to a detention pond at the Facility. The detention pond is emptied using pumps
by Connell personnel as needed. The Tank and Oil-Filled Equipment Information Sheets in
Appendix B address spills or leaks from tanks and oikfilled equipment. Spills or leaks from
loading and unloading operations are reviewed in Table 5.0.
Table 5.0 - Truck and Railcar Loading and Unloading Operations
Loading or Unloading
Area Description Largest Compartment
Volume (gallons)
Containment Spill
Rate Direction of
Flow
Secondary
containment
Bulk Loading and 4,500" pad draining High East, then
Unloading Area into AST south
secondary
containment
Stormwater
Conveyance
Diesel Generator AST 4,500* system High South
discharging to
detention
pond
Explanation of terms:
* Estimated based on the compartment volume of an MC306 cargo tanker truck.
The predicted spill rate was estimated based on the following table:

Kinematic Viscosit Tank Volume (gallons)
y
(centistokes) Less than 100 to 1,000 to Greater than
100 1,000 10,000 10,000
0 to 10 (Not Viscous) Low Medium High High
10 to 100 (Viscous) Low Low Medium High
Greater than 100 (Nearly Low Low Low Low
Solid)
