Jared Dains
South Platte Combined Replacement Plan
March 21, 2011
Page 3
Mining operations at the Distel Pit was expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
Reclamation is in progress and will continue in 2011. Water use at Distel Pit in 2011 will include
dewatering, evaporation from exposed ground water and dust control. Dewatering at the site has
been occurring since 1991 and is expected to continue through 2011 at an approximate rate of
1,100 gallons per minute. The exposed surface area is estimate to equal 69.2 acres.
Mining operations and concrete batching at the W.W. Farms are anticipated to be on hold
during the period of this plan. Therefore water use at this site in 2011 will include dewatering,
evaporation from exposed groundwater and dust control. The dewatering rate is anticipated to
remain at 450 gallons per minute in 2011. The exposed surface area at the W.W. Farms Pit has
been updated based on recent aerial photo at 32.4 acres. As mentioned in the previous SWSP
approval, Aggregate applied to DRMS to amend the existing area boundary of the W.W. Farms to
include the W.W. Farms Expansion area.
Mining at the Tucson South Pit has not yet commenced and it is not anticipated that mining
will begin during this plan period.
Mining and reclamation of the Teti Pit is complete leaving exposed ground water requiring a
permanent plan for augmentation. Aggregate filed an application with the water court for a
permanent plan of augmentation under case no. 2007CW198. Until such time as a decree is
entered in that case, Aggregate will replace depletions from the Teti Pit under this SWSP.
Mining at the Platte Valley Pit was completed in 2006. The site has filled with ground water
and as mining progresses across the river at the Wattenberg Pit, Aggregate will backfill the Platte
Valley Pit with fines produced from the Wattenberg Pit. The exposed surface area at the Platte
Valley Pit has been updated based on a recent aerial photo and consists of 78.8 acres.
Aggregate does not anticipate actively mining the Wattenberg Pit in 2011. The exposed
surface area at the Wattenberg Pit has been updated based on a recent aerial photo and consists
of 16 acres. Depletions resulting from evaporation will be replaced under this SWSP.
Mining of the North Dahlia Pit is complete and Aggregate has backfilled a portion of the
existing lake leaving approximately 3.5 acres of exposed ground water at the Palizza Pond.
Aggregate amended the water court application for a plan for augmentation in case no.
2007CW198 to include the remaining 3.5 acres exposed at the North Dahlia Pit. Until such time as
a decree is entered in that case, Aggregate will replace depletions from the North Dahlia Pit under
this SWSP.
The Jeronimus Pit is complete and Aggregate is currently filling in the lake at the site with
fines from the Hazeltine Pit. Ultimately the entire site will be backfilled. Water use in 2011 will
consist solely of evaporation and the current exposed surface area is 22.4 acres of which 13.1
acres were exposed prior to 1981, thereby leaving a net exposed area requiring augmentation of
9.3 acres.
Aggregate has completed mining at the F-Street Pit and is in the process of reclaiming the
site. The dewatering pumps were turned off in 2008 and the post pumping depletions associated
with that activity was accounted for in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 SWSPs and will continue to be
accounted for in this SWSP. The exposed surface area at the F-Street Pit has been updated based
on recent aerial photo at 26.2 acres. Aggregate is working with the landowner and expects to
transition the land back to him within the next two years after the reclamation is complete.
