March 14,2011 C-1981-019/Colowyo Coal Mine JHB
Stoker Pond was discharging clear, 0.04 on the flume. This pond is well vegetated and no problems were
identified.
Gulch A pond is still mostly iced over and the embankment is still covered with considerable amounts of snow.
The gate is closed and the primary riser is clear of sediment and debris. water/ice level in the pond is
approximately 4-5 feet below the primary riser discharge elevation. Several small animal burrows were observed
on the inslope north of the riser. These holes need to be filled in.
Prospect pond was discharging slightly cloudy, 0.02 on the flume. Chip cleared the flume of sediment during the
inspection. The flume does not appear to be level as flow was higher on the east side of the flume than the west.
The Prospect pond remains partially ice covered. The gate is closed and the weep holes inthe riser pipe were
functioning properly. No problems were identified with the embankment.
ROADS—Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5)and(6)/4.03.2(5)and(6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
The haul roads throughout the mine were thawing and as a result some portions were very muddy.
Colowyo had done a good job of keeping the active haulroads well graded and drained. Lesser used roads were
muddy and some areas had ponded water where snow drifts had recently melted. Repair work was being
conducted to berms along the haul road.
REVEGETATION—Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
Colowyo contunies to seed 2010 reclamation areas that had not been seeded in the fall. These areas are in
the west pit reclamation area as well as some in the East pit.. The operator is using broadcast methods as weather
conditions allow. Colowyo plans to continue to seed approximately 5 acres in the west pit reclamation on 3/17,
weather permitting.
Grasses are just beginning to show spring emergence in the established reclaimed areas of the east pit.
SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04:
Facilities area is well graded and draining to minimize muddy areas. Ditches around the facilities area
will need to be reshaped this spring as the snow/ice piles melt off. Ditches are draining approprieately.
RECLAMATION PLAN COMPLIANCE—Rule 4.13
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 4 of 7
