DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA
Location. The Seneca II Area lies south of Hayden Colorado in Sections •
34, 35, 36 of T6N Range 87W and in Sections 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12 of TSN,
Range 87W in Routt County, Colorado. A total of 1918 acres was mapped
but several hundred acres of strip-mined areas in the general tract were
not mapped.
Climate The climate is typically continental of intermountain foodslopes with
cold winters, warm to hot summers, moderately low rainfall and relatively
short growing seasons. Climatic records locally are not adequate to
present a true picture of conditions so some extrapolations are made from
nearby stations. The following data is taken from Hayden, Steamboat
Springs and Yampa.

Elevations given for these three stations were Hayden - 6375, Steamboat
Springs 6770 and Yampa 7892 feet above sea level. The temperature dates
between 32oF in spring and fall were for Hayden 6/24 and 9/28 or 96
days, for Steamboat Springs 6/30 and 9/28 or 90 days and for Yampa
6/25 and 9/1 or 68 days. •
