Collected Tools, 5RT139
u
5RT139.1
Form: This specimen is a biface.thinning flake,
asymmetrically .rectangular in form .and
Plano-concave in profile. .One lateral
edge appears worked bifacially. _
Material: Grey and tan mottled chert with a brown
cortex.
•
•
Dimensions:.
Retouch:
Functional
Interpretation:
5RT139.4
2.49 cm long x 2.66 cm. wide x .62 cm. wide
Unifacial shallow percussion flake accom-
panied by bifacial edge wear.
The bifacially work lateral_edge appears to be
platform of the flake. The removal of this
flake would assist in the resharpening
process of the original bifacially flaked
tool. The tool has been classified as a
rejuvenation flake.
Form: The specimen is an ovate sandstone cobble
exhibiting an asymmetrical rectangular
cross-section. Cultural alteration is
evident along the entire perimeter and both
surfaces of the cobble. One surface exhibits
a large flake scar, which appears recent in
origin.
Material: Tan sandstone
Dimensions: 11.25 cm. long x 9.10 cm. wide x 5.25 cm. thick
Retouch: Modification results from a combination of
both grinding and pecking.
Functional
Interpretation: The purpose of the tool appears to be multi-
functional. Both faces exhibit heavily
ground surfaces, o.ne being flat-in cross-
section and opposed by a convex face. Both
faces exhibit a heavily striated surface
and apparently were utilized in a grinding
manner oriented along the longitudinal axis
of the cobble. The perimeter of the stone is
heavily battered lending to the rounded out-
line of the cobble. This alteration exhibits
a highly pitted surface with no apparent
grinding modification. Substances being
battered are indeterminate.
37
