• REVEGETATION
• Seeding and Shrub Planting
No new seeding was conducted at Seneca II. No shrubs or trees were planted at Seneca II Mine in 2010.
• Weed Control
Survey for noxious weeds was carried out on the Seneca II Mine permit area in 2010. Canada thistle was the
primary target species, with lesser activity directed towards areas of hounds tongue and whitetop. The weed
control areas will continue to be monitored in 2011 for effectiveness and necessary retreatment.
See the attached weed control daily log spreadsheet for more detailed description of the 2010 herbicide
application (actual log is on file at the mine site) and the 2010 Weed Control Areas map for locations of
spraying areas.
• Revegetation Monitoring
Revegetation monitoring of permanently revegetated areas was conducted during the summer of 2010 by
ESCO Associates, Inc. The 2010 Annual Revegetation Monitoring report will be submitted as a separate
document.
• Grazing
• Cattle (994 long yearlings) were moved on to the Seneca II reclaimed area August 101h, 2010. All cattle were
moved off the Seneca 11 Mine area September 11th, 2010. See attached 2010 Grazing Plan Map for pasture
locations.
This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 795 AUM's for 2010.
Assumptions. 1 longyearling = 0.8 A UM, requiring 648 pounds of forage per montb. (One A UM requires 810 pounds
of forage).
The AUM usage is calculated using the following assumptions:
Assumptions.
Average production = 1,172 lbs. /acre (see 2007 and 2008 Revegetation Monitoring Report)
Total reclaimed area = 2213 acres (included Pre-Lazy area)
One AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
1,172 lbs/acre (x) 2,213 acres = 2,593,636 lbs. of total forage produced
810 lbs. of forage (x) 795 AUM's = 643,950 lbs. of forage required;
Therefore,
643,950 (/) 2,593,636 (x) 100 = 24.8% utilization of the total Seneca II reclaimed area
2
