Acknowledged
9 - Grading and backfilling, including the pit. This grading has been completed.
The pit was partially backfilled, slopes of 3:1 or more in several areas were
completed.
Please note that this reclamation revision requests that several slopes steeper
than 3:1 be left in place at several areas within the deeper pit area. The goal of
reclamation at Mesita Hill is to restore the affected land to rangeland and wildlife
habitat similar to its use prior to mining and the use of the surrounding land.
As the reclamation work was being carried out, some modifications to the
planned work were made in consultation with Colorado DRMS due to site
conditions. MWCA acknowledges that Colorado DRMS has not yet approved
these modifications. The modifications to the slope of the deeper pit are shown
by the attached 8 Yx 11 map and the accompanying photographs 5 - 14.
Approximately 25,000 yards of volcanic scoria were moved from the stockpile
locations towards the center of the mined out pit and used as backfill for the pit.
The slopes on the west side of the pit were reclaimed to 3:1, shorter distances of
the deeper slopes on the north, east and south sides of the pit were reclaimed to
a range of approximately 2.3:1 to 1.5:1. These slopes are negotiable by grazing
animals such as cows and by wildlife. The slopes, as well as the entire site, was
subsequently covered in a mosaic of available topsoil/growth media and then
revegetated.
In areas outside the deeper pit area, such as the western area, the near vertical
outcrops up to 20 feet high were left intact to provide nesting places for birds.
Typical rock knobs left in place are shown by the photographs titled "Rock Knob
SW of Pad" and "Area directly South of Rock Knob".
Several waste rock areas in the pre-law area north and outside of the permit
boundary were also resloped to flatter areas, covered by any available
topsoil/growth media and then revegetated.
10 - Exhibit F - Reclamation Map. A revised map which shows the required
topographic information as well as pertinent locations will be provided.
Please review the referenced Mesita Hill Mine Map - Survey Certificate dated
February 14, 2011. This map reflects the requested revised reclamation plan.
11 - Noxious Weed Plan. The memo describing the revegetation status as of
May 2010 notes that the noxious weed patches comprised of Canada thistle and
Russian knapweed which were observed during a 2005 site visit were
subsequently sprayed and had been successfully eradicated as noted by the
Bamberg Ecological November 2009 survey.
