Annual Report - 2010
Henderson Mine and Mill Reclamation Activities
Permit No. M-1977-342
2.0 Henderson Mill
2.1 Disturbance
Approximately 54 acres were disturbed during 2010. A total of 16 acres were disturbed from
incremental tailings impoundment filling (4 acres per quarter, on average), and 48 acres were
disturbed as a result of topsoil salvage and piling activates. This activity included preliminary
road construction to the new South Stockpile approved as part of Amendment AM-06.
2.2 Reclamation
Interim stabilization efforts included the salvage of 232,350 cubic yards of topsoil/growth media
from inundation areas along the upstream side of the tailing impoundment. The material was
placed in the north stockpile, which is situated on the northern end of the impoundment.
2.3 Other Activities
2.3.1- Weed Control
EcoRx, Henderson Mill's contractor for weed management, treated 242 acres at the Henderson
Mill site, 1.25 acres associated with US Forest Service easements, and approximately 7 acres at
the inactive Kremmling Railhead facility. The primary focus of EcoRx's efforts consistently
relate to areas of disturbance (typically surrounding the topsoil stockpiling efforts), thus ensuring
that fledgling growth is mitigated and made increasingly more manageable.
The target species treated include: Canada, musk & plumless thistle, Oxeye daisy, Yellow
Toadflax, Houndstongue, and Mayweed Chamomile. These species were treated with Tordon,
2,4-D, Milestone, Weedestroy and Induce.
Additionally, all building perimeters and fuel storage locations (gasoline, diesel and propane)
were treated with a Throttle XP and Roundup (soil sterilizers to prevent any vegetative growth).
2.3.2 - Groundwater Data
Groundwater data for well GW-7 for Henderson Mill is contained in Attachment B.
2.3.3 - Flood Storage Capacity
Semi-annual analyses of flood storage capacity in the Mill tailings impoundment were carried out by
W.W. Wheeler, per DRMS requirements stipulated for Technical Revision (TR) 14. These are included
as Attachment C.
2.3.4 - Interceptor Canal Improvements
Additional repair and maintenance along the interceptor canal was performed to stabilize slopes and
increase vegetative growth. The lower interceptor canal was also officially decommissioned. This was
Page 2
