the nature of this disturbance, including the approximate dimensions of any pit
walls as required by Rule 6.3.3(f). Also, please indicate if the disturbance is the
result of mining.
The pit, as originally submitted, does cross an area previously disturbed. Mr. Lanny
Payne, current land owner, stated that material was taken from the site many years ago,
probably before the state requirements for reclamation permits. Pit walls in the
previously disturbed area range from being vertical to a slope of 2H. •I V.
9. The Mining Plan states excavation will stop at least one foot above the static
groundwater level. At least two feet of native material should be left over the
groundwater table. Please commit excavating no closer than two feet above the
static groundwater level.
The Applicant will commit to excavating no closer than two feet above the static
groundwater level.
10. The Mining Plan states limited processing may occur. Please describe the
nature of processing as required by Rule 6.3.3(m).
Don Riemenshnieder has indicated that no processing will occur at the site.
11. The Applicant has stated the site will be seeded according to NRCS
recommendations. The Division generally concurs with the seeding
recommendations of NRCS; however, the permit application did not contain their
recommendations. Please provide the Division with the following information as
required by Rule 6.3.4(1) (c) (ii)-(v):
ii. Explain how the seedbed will be prepared to eliminate compacted
conditions. State the type, application rate, and soil incorporation methods
of fertilizer application, if any.
The recommended seeding plan from the Washington County NRCS Office was
previously provided. The recommendation calls for planting a cover crop of
Sterile Sorghum that would be drilled at a rate of 2.23 lbs/acre. The site would be
worked to prepare a proper seed bed before the cover crop was seeded.
