February 16, 2011 <br />Jared Ebert <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety <br />Department of Natural Resources <br />1313 Sherman St. Room 215 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br /> <br />RE: Friederichs Pit; DRMS File No. M-2010-080, 110c Application Adequacy <br />?Review #1. <br />Mr. Ebert, <br />In response to your February 15, 2011 request for additional information regarding <br />inadequacies in specific exhibit requirements; please see the following reply for your review. <br />6.3.2 EXHIBIT B - Site Description <br />Item 1) Please provide a description of the vegetation and soil characteristics in the area of <br />the proposed operation. <br />Response: Please see the attached NRCS report identifying the vegetation and soil <br />characteristics in the area of operation. <br />6.3.3 EXHIBIT C -Mining-Plan <br />Item 2) Please indicate what species of grass will be planted on the topsoil stockpile to <br />stabilize it from wind and water erosion. Please provide a list of species and the approximate <br />pounds per acre of seed to be planted on the stockpile. <br />Response: The topsoil pile will be planted with a grass mix including side oats grama 1.1 lbs <br />per acre, western wheat grass 2.0 lbs per acre, blue grama 0Jlbs per acre, little blue stem 0.7 <br />lbs per acre, and Indian rice grass at 0.4 Ibs per acre. Please note that this information has <br />been added to the Mining Plan - revised 2/15/2011. <br />Item 3) Please specify where mining will commence within the permit area and what <br />direction(s) mining will proceed. <br />Response: Mining will begin at the south, southeast boundary of the mining area. Mining <br />will proceed in the directions Northeast, North, and Northwest. Please note that this <br />information has been added to the Mining Plan - revised 2/15/2011. <br />Item 4) While excavating, will a high wall be created <br />Response: A high wall will be created approximately 10'-0" high at an approximate 1:1 <br />slope, and approximately 850'-0" in length along the North boundary at any given time <br />during the mining operation. Please note that this information has been added to the Mining <br />Plan - revised 2/15/2011. <br />Item 5) Please describe how storm water will be managed at the site. Will any impoundments <br />or diversion structures be created? <br />Response: A storm water rock filter will be created and placed along the southern boundary <br />at the low point of the mining area.
