- 71-1?
Peabody
Peabody Energy
Sage Creek Coal Company, LLC
February 14, 2011
Mr. Jason Musick
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety (DRMS)
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver CO 80203
Re: Sage Creek Coal Company
Peabody Sage Creek Mine (Permit No. C-2009-087)
Technical Revision (TR01-10) Adequacy Responses
Mr. Musick,
-T7API
29515 Routt County Rd. #27
Oak Creek, CO. 80467
(970) 879-3800
N\?\v`. 9 aid yaEz*
Sage Creek Coal Company has reviewed your adequacy review letter dated January 20, 2011 and
has developed the following responses.
1. The first sentence of the initial paragraph on page 2.05-5 of the revised text discusses the
movement of coal from a small on-site storage stockpile to nearby customers. Map 2.05.3
MIA identifies two coal handling facilities areas labeled 17 and page 2.05-17 discusses two
stockpile locations. Please delineate which area, or both, that will be used for on-site
storage of coal.
Response: Coal storage will occur at both stockpile locations during the initial permit term. It is
anticipated that a maximum of 400,000 tons could be stored between the two stockpile areas.
The discussion on page 2.05-5 and 2.05-17 has been clarified.
2. The first sentence of the fifth paragraph on page 2.05-5 states that "New surface facilities in
the Little Grassy Creek watershed will include the mine portal face-up area, temporary
topsoil and overburden stockpiles, a coal stockpile, and coal handling facilities. " Map 2.05.3
identifies two coal handling facilities, but no indication is given for the location of the coal
stockpile or if there will be coal stored at both coal handling facilities locations. Please
discuss and identify on Map 2.05.3 MIA the location of the coal stockpile(s).
Response: See response to Item #1
3. The fourth paragraph on page 2.05-13, under the heading Material and Equipment Storage
Yards, states that, "Two material and equipment storage yards will be located near the portal
area, " and the storage yards will cover an area of approximately 11.5 acres. According to
the proposed Map 2.05.3 MIA, there is only one material and equipment storage yard in the
south facilities area comprising approximately 4.0 acres. Please determine the correct
number of material and equipment storage areas and the appropriate acreage, revise Map
2.05.3 MIA and page 2.05.3-13 accordingly.
