6.4.9 EXHIBIT I -Soils Information
(1) After consulting with Dave Dearstyne, Soil Scientist, Project Leader, for the
USDA-NRCS in Montrose, Colorado and creating an Area of Interest (AOI) on the
NRCS Web Soil Survey (WSS) website, we have developed specific soil maps for
the project area in addition to the generalized soils information presented in
Exhibit C. Those maps, with detailed soil descriptions for:
• Range Production
• Roadfill Source
• Farmland Classification
• Hydric soils
are attached herein. None of the soils at the site are suitable for farmland or crop
production unless irrigated and/or significantly altered from their current type and
status by the use of fertilizers and soil mitigation techniques. Additionally, there are
no hydric soils capable of sustaining wetlands in or near (within 200 feet) of the
Donley rock quarry site.
(2) We understand that the Board may require additional information about soils to
be used in the reclamation process. As Mr. Dearstyne noted in personal
conversations, the site soils are quite thin and low in organic content. Their
suitability for reclamation use will be limited to the seed mix recommended by
NRCS biologist, Mr. Steve Woodis in his July 9, 2010 letter, attached herein.
Donley Rock Quarry
Exhibit I
