The proposed
construction at the Jansen Yard site is anticipated to include widening of Highway 12 and
a retaining wall along an existing drainage ditch.
2.0 SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
The subsurface investigation was conducted on August 5th and 0 2010, and
included eight geotechnical borings. The locations of the borings are shown on Figures 3
and 4. Typed boring logs are included in Appendix A. Samples of the subsurface
materials were collected during Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) and using bulk
sampling methods at the locations shown on the logs.
Water Tanks
Boring BH -12 encountered 6.0 feet of sandy lean clay with gravel, wood, etc. fill
material above tan to brown, dry to moist, medium dense sandy gravel to a depth of 7.0
feet. Below the gravel, brown, soft, highly weathered shale bedrock extended to the
bottom of the boring. Auger refusal was encountered at a depth of 11.0 feet.
Groundwater was not encountered in BH -12 at the time of the investigation.
Boring BH -13 encountered 1.0 foot of brown, dry, medium dense gravelly sand to
the bottom of the boring where sandstone bedrock was encountered. Auger refusal
occurred at a depth of 1.0 feet. Groundwater was not encountered in BH -13 at the time
of the investigation.
Bridge
Boring BH -14 encountered 13.0 feet of brown, moist, loose to medium dense
clayey sand with gravel above brown, wet, dense to very dense sandy gravel to the
bottom of the boring. Groundwater was encountered in BH -14 at a depth of 13.5 feet at
the time of the investigation.
Pionp Station /Diversion Structure
Boring BH -15 encountered 15.25 feet of sand, gravel, clay, and coal fill above
black, moist to wet, very loose to loose silt to a depth of 19.0 feet. The silt was underlain
by brown, wet, dense to very dense sandy gravel to the bottom of the boring.
Groundwater was encountered in BH -15 at a depth of 22.5 feet at the time of the
investigation.
Boring BH -16 encountered 11.0 feet of sand, gravel, clay, shale, and coal fill
above dark brown, wet, very loose to loose silt to a depth of 15.5 feet. The silt was
underlain by brown, wet; medium dense to very dense sandy gravel to the bottom of the
boring. Groundwater was encountered in BH -16 at a depth of 8.5 feet at the time of the
investigation.
%K%2008 ALL PROJECTS•. 00456 -Rh- City C11sultantsJne"56mw - Ged.00 56-000.1R082410.&0 2
