Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 207 <br />site is located is situated in the margin between Axial Basin to the north and the major ridge system <br />to the southwest from which it is derived (Figure 6.122). The mouth of Collom Gulch is <br />approximately 0.5 mi (0.8 km) to the south. The general area is characterized as rolling terrain with <br />numerous drainages. On -site sediment consists of shallow sandy silt overlying residual clay with <br />a large volume of gravel and eroding bedrock detritus. The vegetation community consists of <br />scattered juniper trees, sparse sagebrush, tabbitbrush, cheatgrass, low bunchgrasses, and forbs. <br />Impacts to the site include a two -track road through the site along the ridge spine, erosion, and <br />livestock trampling. <br />The open camp consists of one hearth (Feature 1), one projectile point, two flake tools, one core, and <br />131 flakes. Feature 1 is a poorly preserved hearth consisting of charcoal- stained sediment and <br />approximately 100 heat - altered rock fragments (Figure 6.123). Overall, the feature measures 57 x <br />62 cm with little depth to the staining. The heat - altered rock is all readily available tabular <br />sandstone.
