The biface fragment is the distal
portion of a semitranslucent chert preform that measures 1.2P x 2.31? x 0.3 cm. The specimen is
randomly flaked and exhibits fine pressure flaking along the extant distal margin. The debitage
assemblage consists of 46 flakes comprised of 45 tertiary flakes and one primary flake. The most
common material type is white opaque chert with 35 tertiary flakes. The remainder of the
assemblage consists of seven opaque chert tertiary flakes, two dendritic chert tertiary flakes, one
oolitic chert tertiary flake, and one quartzite primary flake.
Testine Results Two shovel tests were excavated at the site with negative results. The sediment
matrix noted in Shovel Tests 1 and 2 consisted of silly sand to a depth of 5 cm below ground surface
overlying sandy silt with gravel and bedrock detritus to a depth of 30 cm and 33 cm below ground
surface, respectively. Both shovel tests were terminated on underlying residual clay and gravel.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
