•
thin the flake. Usewear was noted along the distal margin. The multidirectional core is made of
94 Class Ill Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
porcellanite and at least 14 flake scars were noted. It measures 9.6 x 8.7 x 4.9 cm, and no usewear
is present.
The debitage assemblage consists of 22 flakes. Tertiary flakes are the most common with
18 specimens. The remainder is comprised of three secondary flakes and one primary. White
opaque chert was the most common material type with 11 flakes (10 tertiary and one secondary
flakes). The remainder consists of four quartzite flakes (two tertiary, one secondary, and one primary
flakes), three se rnitranslucent chert flakes (two tertiary and one secondary flakes), two opaque chert
tertiary flakes, and two fossiliferous chert tertiary flakes.
The mano consists of an incomplete unifacially ground sandstone cobble. The extant portion of the
tool measures 5.OP x 4.3 x 1.5 cm. The working surface was not heavily ground and limited pecking
was noted on the ground surface.
Testing Resul Two shovel tests were excavated with negative results. The shovel tests were
placed in parts of the site that appeared to have some potential for sediment depth. The sediment
matrix noted in both of the shovel tests consisted of unconsolidated silty sand with gravel and
bedrock detritus to a depth of 15 em below ground surface overlying consolidated clay residuum.
Bedrock was encountered at a depth of 40 em below ground surface in Shovel Test 1.
•
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF6077 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under Criterion D. The site is a surface
manifestation with no dateable cultural features and an artifact assemblage that is limited in density
and diversity. 'The shallow aeolian veneer has no potential to contain intact significant subsurface
cultural deposits. The site has been impacted by slopewash, and it is likely that the artifacts are not
in primary context. The incised drainage on -site was examined for any evidence of buried cultural
material with negative results. Recordation of the site has exhausted its research potential.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
