i
The site is located within the mine permit boundary. However, because the site is recommended as
Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 95
not eligible for listing on the NRHP, the current project will have no effect. Site 5MF6078 (NF -21)
Site Tyne Prehistoric lithic scatter
Legal Locatio Section 13, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensio 25 x 8 m
Site Descriptio Site 5MF6078 is a diffuse prehistoric lithic scatter located on a southeast- facing
slope of a large northeast- trending ridge at 6,640 ft (2,024 m) (Figure 6.43). The site is on the west
ip side of Collura Gulch and west of the confluence of Collom and Little Collom Gulches. The general
area consists of broad northeast /southwest- trending ridges and gulches. Axial Basin is located to the
north. Exposures of bedrock are common throughout the area in general and within the site proper
(Figure 6.44). On -site sediment consists of shallow aeolian silty sand intermixed with eroding
bedrock detritus and gravel. The vegetation community consists of dense sagebrush, rabbitbrush,
cheatgrass, low grasses, and various forbs. Junipers are scattered about the area. Impacts to the site
include vehicle traffic along a two -track road that bisects the site, erosion, and livestock trampling.
The lithic scatter consists of one retouched flake and 10 flakes. The retouched flake is made of
opaque chert and measures 5.3 x 3.1 x 1.3 cm. The distal margin exhibits a steep edge angle formed
by retouch. Light retouch is present along both lateral margins. Limited usewear was noted along
all three margins. The debitage assemblage consists of 10 tertiary flakes. Of these flakes, white
opaque chert is the most common material type with eight flakes. The remaining two flakes are
quartzite.
V_1
LJ
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
