•
90 Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
Both flake tools are utilized flakes. The first tool is a complete opaque chert tertiary flake that
measures 2.8 x 1.9 x 0.5 cm and exhibits usewear along one lateral margin. The second utilized
flake is a complete white opaque chert tertiary flake that measures 2.6 x 1.2 x 0.3 cm and exhibits
usewear along one lateral margin.
The debitage assemblage consists of 207 flakes. The assemblage is dominated by 204 tertiary flakes
and three secondary flakes. White opaque chert is the most common material type with 179 flakes
(176 tertiary and three secondary flakes). The remainder of the debitage consists of 27 tertiary flakes
made of various opaque cherts and one fossiliferous chert tertiary flake.
A quartzite cobble hammerstone was also identified. The tool is 7.1 x 4.9 x 5.4 cm and exhibits a
heavily pocked. lateral surface.
Testing Resul Two shovel tests were excavated at the site with negative results. Both shovel
tests were placed in the central part of the site where there appeared to be some potential for
sediment depth. The sediment matrix in both test excavations consisted of shallow aeolian sheet
deposits to a depth of 10 to 15 cm below ground surface overlying sandy clay and bedrock.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF6076 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under Criterion D. The site is a surface
manifestation That has a limited density and diversity of artifacts. The shallow sediment has no
potential to contain intact significant subsurface cultural deposits. Recordation has exhausted the
research potential of the site.
The site is located within the mine permit boundary. However, because the site is recommended as
not eligible for listing on the NRHP, the current project will have no effect. Cultural resource
clearance is recommended with no further work stipulated.
•
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
