J
Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 133
(. Figure 6.71 Overview of Site 5MF6089, Looking North - northwest (Taken by Aron Wagner,
8/12/05).
narrow ridge of exposed bedrock occurs immediately east of the site (Figure 6.71). The sediment
consists of a thin mantle of fine - grained aeolian silty sand intermixed with eroding sandstone gravel
and bedrock detritus. The vegetation community consists ofrelatively sparse sagebrush, rabbitbrush,
cheatgrass, low grasses, prickly pear cactus, and various forbs. Scattered juniper trees occur in
proximity to the exposed bedrock ridge. Impacts to the site include erosion and grazing.
The lithic scatter consists of one multidirectional core and 31 flakes. The core measures 3.0 x 2.2 x
1.4 cm and is made of white opaque chert. At least 14 flake scars are present, and the core appears
to be exhausted. The debitage assemblage consists of 28 tertiary flakes, two secondary flakes, and
one primary flake. White opaque chert is the most common material type with 27 flakes (26 tertiary
flakes and one secondary flake). The remainder consists of two quartzite flakes (one primary and
one secondary), one opaque chert secondary flake, and one semitranslucent chert tertiary flake.
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
