•
Class III Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 127
The site occurs within the mine permit boundary, but it is not eligible for the NRHP, and the project
will have no effect. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.1.30 Site 5MF6088 (NF -17)
Site Tyne Lit:hic scatter
Legal Location Section 13, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensio 173 x 143 m
Site Descriptio Site 5MF6088 is a large lithic scatter (Figure 6.67). It is located on an east - facing
lower slope near the north end of a northeast- trending ridge overlooking the confluence of Collom
and Little Collom Gulches to the east. The site lies at 6,600 ft (2,012 m) and is mainly concentrated
in a saddle between a low knoll and a northwest/southeast - trending bedrock ridge (Figure 6.68).
A broad drainage basin is located to the north. On -site sediment consists of a thin mantle of
fine- grained silty sand intermixed with coarse sandstone gravel and eroding bedrock detritus. The
vegetation community consists of sagebrush, rabbitbrush, cheatgrass, low grasses, various forbs, and
prickly pear cactus. Scattered juniper trees are present in proximity to the exposed bedrock ridge
along the south end of the site. Impacts to the site include erosion, grazing, and pilfering.
The artifact assemblage consists of one incomplete projectile point (collected), five bifaces, one drill,
four flake tools, two cores, and 128 flakes. The incomplete projectile point is a medial portion of
a lanceolate final biface that compares favorably with Eden types (Figure 6.69). The extant portion
measures 34P x 13 x 5 rnm and is made of clear semitranslucent chert. The blade margins exhibit
a slight taper suggesting the fragment is from the distal portion of the blade. The fragment is
biconvex in cross section and exhibits finely executed parallel flaking.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
