•
110 Class III Inventory, Colowyo`s Collom Mine Project
is made of opaque chert. The second specimen consists of a medial portion that measures 20P x
12P x 4 mm and is made of mottled opaque chert. The third specimen is a medial /lateral portion that
measures 18P x 14P x 4 mm and is made of mottled opaque chert. The flake tool is a utilized piece
of dendritic chert shatter that measures 4.3P x 4.01? x 1.0 cm and exhibits light usewear along the
distal margin.
The debitage assemblage consists of 48 flakes, 45 of which are tertiary flakes, with two pieces of
shatter and one secondary flake. Various opaque cherts are the most common material type with
26 flakes (24 tertiary flakes, one secondary flake, and one piece of shatter). The remainder of the
assemblage consists of 13 mottled opaque chert tertiary flakes, five semitranslucent chert tertiary
flakes, three quartzite flakes (two tertiary flakes and one piece of shatter), and one white opaque
chert tertiary flake.
The site was not tested because the sediment context consisted of a shallow discontinuous veneer
of silty sand with gravel and bedrock detritus overlying bedrock.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF6082 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under Criterion D. The site consists of a diffuse
artifact scatter with no dateable cultural features and an assemblage comprised of a limited density
and diversity of artifacts. The shallow context of the sediment strongly suggests that the site has
little or no potential to contain intact significant subsurface cultural deposits. Recordation has
exhausted the research potential of the site.
The site is located within the mine permit boundary. However, because the site is recommended as
not eligible for listing on the NRHP, the current project will have no effect. Cultural. resource
clearance is recommended, with no further work stipulated.
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
M1
