Class IIIlnventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 107
0 context suggests that the site has little or no potential to contain intact significant subsurface cultural
deposits. Recordation has exhausted the research potential of the site.
The site occurs within the mine permit boundary, but it is not eligible for the NRHP. Therefore, the
project will have no effect. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.1.24 Site 5MF6082 (A -33)
Site Tyne Prehistoric lithic scatter
Legal Location Section 20, T4N, R93W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 100 x 80 m
Site Descriptio Site 5MF6082 is a diffuse prehistoric lithic scatter located on a northeast - trending
ridge spur at 7,050 ft (2,149 m) (Figure 6.51). The spur is situated between the mouth of Jubb Creek
to the east and an unnamed north- trending drainage to the west. Axial Basin is located to the north
(Figure 6.52). On -site sediment consists of a shallow veneer of sandy loam with eroding gravel and
bedrock detritus. Exposures of bedrock occur infrequently in the general area. The sparse vegetation
community consists of scattered junipers, sagebrush, rabbitbrush, low grasses and various forbs.
Impacts to the site include erosion and livestock trampling.
The diffuse lithic scatter consists of one projectile point, three final biface fragments, one flake tool,
and 48 flakes. The projectile point consists of the reworked proximal /medial portion of a
Mallory -like specimen (Figure 6.53). The artifact measures 25 x 26 x 3 mm and is made of mottled
opaque chert. The distal edge appears to be a bifacially worked transverse fracture just above the
notches. The hafting element has a neck width of 18 mm and is 14 mm long. The base has a deep
central notch. The specimen is biconvex in cross section and exhibits random flaking. The three
final bifaces appear to be fragments of manufacturing stages. The first specimen consists of a notch
fragment from an indeterminate corner- notched point specimen. It measures 19P x 16P x 3 mm and
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
Eii
